A big thank you to all the writers who explored the possibilities of the quantum world, weaved tales from these threads and shared their stories with us. Submissions to Quantum Shorts closed on 16 December 2021 to just over 400 entries. All eligible entries are now up on our website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While writers will now have to wait for news, the task that awaits\u00a0<a href=\"\/shortlisting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">our shortlisting judges<\/a>\u00a0is challenging. Our shortlisting judges will pick just ten stories for the shortlist from all the amazing stories submitted. They will be judging the stories based on their storytelling, creative use of the constraint phrase \u201cit\u2019s a lot to think about\u201d, and connections to quantum physics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two new judges Floor van Riggelen and Mindy Tan join the panel this year. Floor is an experimental physicist at QuTech, our scientific partner, working on making spin qubits in quantum dots. Quantum short stories are for her the perfect combination of her love for stories and literature with her fascination for quantum mechanics. Mindy is a librarian at Singapore\u2019s National Library Board and was a moderator for our quantum panel at the 2020 Singapore Writers Festival. She thinks that the best type of sci-fi books are the ones that are not only grounded in scientific world-building, but are also able to make reading about these worlds accessible to all readers. Welcome Floor and Mindy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They join a panel with expertise in science communication, writing, and research in fields such as theoretical physics, dark matter detection and metrology.
