Since then it has become established as an annual celebration of creativity inspired by quantum physics, alternating between calls for flash fiction and film. This year it&#8217;s the turn of films again, and Quantum Shorts is growing beyond the virtual world. We&#8217;re turning into a festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quantum Shorts 2016 will end with screenings of the shortlisted films by prestigious partners internationally, starting in February 2017. There are cash prizes of up to US$1500 on top. Eminent judges including Professor Brian Greene, writer and filmmaker Alex Winter and curator Honor Harger will decide the top awards, with a further prize decided by public vote.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To make this quantum festival a reality, we invite submissions of films up to five minutes long that&nbsp;are inspired by or related to the themes and ideas of quantum physics. We would like to see narrative or abstract films that use the field\u2019s science, history, philosophy or technology as a springboard. Please contact us if you have questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quantum Shorts 2016 is organised by the Centre for Quantum Technologies at the National University of Singapore. We are grateful to our incredible partners &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"\/media-partners\">media partners<\/a>\u00a0<em>Scientific American\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Nature<\/em>, the quantum research centres that are scientific partners and the\u00a0<a href=\"\/screening-partners\">screening partners<\/a>\u00a0that will show the shortlisted films.
